the other side

Ever since Anna brought home "Clifford" - the classroom stuffed dog - to care for over a long weekend last school year we have sporatically fielded questions about getting a dog of our own. At first these questions were easily fielded as we distracted her and explained the work that comes with the territory of owning a pet.

Pets haven't come up for several months so imagine my surprise when out of the blue Anna piped up with this yesterday as we were driving home from preschool:

Anna: "Mom, I know puppies are a lot of work. But, you have to look at the other side. You can take them for a walk on a beautiful day in the sunshine. You can snuggle with them, and play with them. There's lots of good things too!"

Me: "Yes, you are right Anna...there are."

Anna: "So...I know they are a lot of work for grown ups, but they are A LOT of fun for kids. So...you know...you just need to look at the other side."
