another year begins

First Day of "High 5's" Preschool

Anna's first day started off with a few jitters. A little nervous about starting school again, and not sure if she wanted to leave the fun and freedom of summer behind, Anna's morning started out a little rocky. She was stuck between wanting to go to the preschool she knows and loves, wanting to stay home with her mom and brother, and at the same time wishing she were getting on the big yellow bus that picked up several of her neighborhood friends this morning.

Fortunately, once we arrived at school her excitement overtook her apprehensions and she bounded in with a smile and a happy hello to teachers old and new, and friends familiar and yet to-be.

Our house is certainly a quiet one without this bubbly little girl around all day, but Emmett and I are adjusting to a new normal. Today we attended his first tumbling class, which was a lot of fun and spent some time playing "boy" toys like motorcycles and "shooters". I feel fortunate to still have my big girl home all day once a week, and at the same time have a year of just Emmett and I for 4 days before he too embarks on a preschool adventure next year. It's so true that while the days can sometimes be long, the years fly by. Sniff sniff.

Sweet anticipation...

A work in progress...

Getting closer...

Impressed yet? Apparently Emmett wasn't.

TA DAAAA!

The final result - tie-dye paint and gold and silver glitter. It was the highlight of the day for this big kid!

fabulous five!

What do you do when you are a FABULOUS FIVE year old?

You have a party...with family...grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles & aunts, cousins, and your little brother...

with a fabulous cake...

and very generous gifts (all of which she has played with lovingly - and some loudly)...

and then you wake up the next day and wish to do it all over again because it was so much fun!

final weeks of summer

The final few weeks of summer went by in a blur, as they always seem to do. The kids soaked up every minute of sunshine and time outside as they could - we ventured to new parks across the city as well as nearby, went on long bike rides, attended our local city fair as well as the State Fair, rode on rides, ate fair food, and Anna & Emmett spent several days at "Camp Oshkosh" leaving mom and dad home to enjoy some quiet and time for house projects.

Spending nearly a week at Nana and Papa's was a great way to round out the summer for these two munchkins as they had time to go on boat rides, fish (Anna caught many, many fish!), play at parks and with new friends and more. It was a treat for all of us!

We certainly got the most out of our summer this year...and while we are sad to see it end, a new chapter begins yet again with another year of school and new activities around the corner!
