Thanksgiving - Paris Day 7

Our last day in Paris! This day was met with so many mixed emotions! Our trip was coming to a close...it was Thanksgiving Day, a day we missed our children deeply, and yet there was so much we wanted to enjoy yet in our visit with my dad & Penny.

While Penny worked on getting Monsieur Dinde in the oven and many other Thanksgiving preparations, Steve and I headed to Montmartre...the artists quarter up on the top of a hill. The views of the city from up here were breathtaking. The paintings were equally beautiful.

The HUGE turkey Penny and her friend Amy procured for our Thanksgiving feast. This is no easy feat in a place where Thanksgiving isn't celebrated, and turkey is not typically prepared until Christmastime.

Church at Montmartre...with hundreds of steps. We sat in a cafe across the street and admired it, too tired that day to walk the long trek up!

I loved the cute streets, shops and restaurants. It's no wonder that greats like Picasso got some of their inspiration here.

After walking the city one last time, and after I had frequented every children's store in Paris (at least twice)...seriously their kids clothes are SO ADORABLE...we headed back to my dad and Penny's apartment for an evening of delicious food, and wonderful company.

Living in France for nearly 2 years my dad & Penny have established a strong network of friends. On this Thanksgiving, in addition to hosting us they graciously opened their home to Ken & Amy (newly married who live in the US but will spend 2 years in Paris), Steven & Frances (from England, but have lived in Paris for 9 years), and Penny's French teacher Michele (born in France, however spent a portion of her life in the US). The food was spectacular and the conversation was so interesting given the diversity of guests. We missed our kids terribly, but it was very special to me to spend this holiday with my dad and Penny. Thank you both for a wonderful Thanksgiving, and for a fantastic trip. We will remember it always!

The next morning we headed out early for our long trip home...

It was so special that you and Steve were able to spend it with us. By the way, the turkey is upside down because that's the way the French do it here...they flip it half-way during the cooking!

It's been a delight to follow your trip,to relive our visits to many of the same sights and to put others on our 'must see next time' list. So glad to hear you had such a great time.
